A very powerful essay, brought tears to my eyes. It’s shocking to read what the visionary scholar endured as backlash.

Holy crap this piece is brilliant. Thanks so much for having the courage to write this! And seeing my name in there was a real honor. <3

This has been on the back burner of my mind since it first graced my inbox. I still have yet to peruse your exegesis in detail but I just wanted to say thank you so very much for doing this kind of work. It's as old as the apostles, of course, but after and amidst so much suppression it takes all the grit and care and time (and, for me, grieving) to manage to put the brushed-against-the-grain awarenesses to words. Your work matters.

This post crossed my mind today because I wrote a little poem about Mary and Joseph. It's not my finest work so it's paywalled, but it's earnest! If you message me your email (no pressure), I'll add you to the newsletter list so you can check it out.

Wishing you a meaningful and manageable weekend.

Hi, sorry Substack doesn't notify me when people comment on pieces! Thanks so much for your comment and for continuing to think about this piece - I think about this topic a lot, and definitely every Christmas, thanks to Jane Schaberg's work. It really is earth-shaking for the meaning of Christianity, and I wish it was more discussed. I'd love to read your newsletter as well!
